AXIS Network Board Update 2020 #2

The combination of Coronavirus, social isolation, and low oil price, sees us in a truly turbulent time right now, so we won’t try to pretend it’s business as usual for us at AXIS. We would like to do our best to support as many people as possible at this time though, so we hope this month’s update has something for everyone. If there’s something you’d like to see us take on over the next period, please drop us a line and let us know, we’d love to hear from you.

Working from home

Who’d have thought a month ago we could switch to a predominantly home-based, flexible working, workforce within a week? The new norm to so many of us, though our committee will share some honest reflections in a blog series over the coming weeks. For now, here’s some quick advice on things we’ve found are working well for us. Please let us know what you’d add!

Mentoring

Our mentoring lead Susan Gordon shares her thoughts here on why now is a great time to pursue a mentoring relationship. Registration for our 2020 cohort closed on Friday, we’ve had a great response so watch your inbox to hear more.

Virtual meet-up

It will be a while before we get to host another AXIS Network event, so in the meantime we thought we’d try out a virtual meet-up. We’d like to invite you to join us for our first, an informal gathering and networking, this Friday afternoon. Register here.

Recommendations

Finally, if you find you do have a little spare time on your hands on the moment, then we’ve put together the below list of some of our favourite resources. Further suggestions always welcome!

Reading: Untamed by Glennon Doyle, this month’s read for the Hello Sunshine bookclub

Watching: BBC One’s adaptation of the fantastic Noughts and Crosses novel series by Malorie Blackman

Listening: A Podcast of One’s Own with Julia Gillard (Australia’s former PM)

Following: The Lean In message has moved on, and we are still huge fans of Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In weekly news summaries

Learning: The Harvard Business Review daily alerts are our favourite place to learn about the latest research and advice on gender in business, leadership, and – now – working from home

If you’d like even more, then check out our Resources webpage where we’ve put together shortlists of the latest and best key information in a number of areas.

Kind regards,

Karen Blanc, and the AXIS committee
